For generations, The Evergreen Conference Center has been a place for healing hearts. It began as a spiritual retreat center for the Episcopal Church. Since 1898, these grounds have been a place where children and families came for fun, fellowship and spiritual renewal. Today, the Conference Center is still involved in healing the hearts of children and their families  through the work of The Institute for Attachment and Child Development.

Evergreen Conference Center has long been a focus of cultural and spiritual life in Evergreen. This property is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and has been the home of the annual Christian Music Conference. "The constant, continued use of these historically significant buildings is unique. Their adaptability has contributed to their present functional usefulness... These structures have been well preserved...[and] give this mountain community the identity and nostalgic charm that makes it a truly historic landmark" (National Register of Historic Places).

With the purchase of the Evergreen Conference Center in 1994, The Institute for Attachment and Child Development. fulfilled several dreams. We now have a "home" for our program, a hospitality house for visiting families, and a facility to train others in this important work. In addition, by making the Evergreen Conference Center available for the use of the public, this facility serves as a resource to financially support the work of The Institute for Attachment and Child Development. It also serves  to connect The Institute for Attachment and Child Developmentwith the community. These two factors are extremely important to our work. "More and more not-for-profits are developing a business that supports mission without drawing revenues from traditional sources...and that is a strength in and of itself" (Mission-Based Management, Peter C. Brinckerhoff). We are encouraged that we are able to do this in a way that supports families and community as well as the work of The Institute for Attachment and Child Development.

The Evergreen Conference Center is very much a part of the community. Various groups use this facility for seminars, workshops, and other community events. Corporations and businesses hold meetings, retreats and social functions at this facility. The Center continues to promote wedding receptions, anniversary parties, reunions and other important family life transitions.
